Floy Dean Oliver, 65, passed away Saturday, August 31 in North Little Rock. She was born October 5, 1947 in Camden, Ark. to Henry and Hilda Russell of Harmony Grove, Ouachita County. Floy Dean was a very active person who was passionate about yard work, friends and traveling but most of all her family. She dedicated her whole life to her husband, children, grandchildren and her eleven pound Pekinese she called Poo. She was proud to be one of the original Arkansas Travelers who campaigned for Bill Clinton in New Hampshire. While her husband served as Democratic Party Chairman, she befriended all of the young people that came through the headquarters. She called them her kids. It was not unusual to find her at the headquarters mopping the floor and cleaning the bathrooms. One of her favorite moments was getting to walk through the White House while it was decorated for Christmas. She and Ron traveled a lot but a few of her favorites included Disney World and New Orleans. She always wanted to drive through the areas that were flooded and marvel at the recovery. Floy Dean was an extremely intelligent woman who followed worldwide events closely and definitely had an opinion about most things. But the words her friends used to describe her most were Caring and Kind. She loved Garvan Woodland Gardens and the Pulaski County Humane Society. Floy Dean was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilda Russell and one daughter, Merilisabeth Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Ron Oliver; son, Ken Johnson; one daughter, Lindsay Oliver; four grandchildren, Allison Vandenberg, Kallon Gentry, Jonathan and Madison Conder, all of North Little Rock; one sister, Ann Sturgis (Edward) of Kingsland; brother, Thomas Russell (Cathy) of Texarkana, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5th at Clinton Presidential Center in the Great Hall. Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, a Smith Family Funeral Home. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
