Betty Carty Eubanks

Betty Carty Eubanks, 91, passed away Thursday, September 19, in Little Rock, Ark. She was born in Mulberry, Ark., on November 3, 1921, to Fred Hudson and Mae Kizer Carty. As a young woman, Betty attended Mrs. Dove's Finishing School and Draughon's Business College in Fort Smith. Through mutual friends, Betty met Ralph T. Eubanks in Mulberry. Betty and Ralph were married on October 31, 1943. They were married for 63 years. Survivors include two children, Linda and husband Joe Umphress of Cordova, Tenn., and Ralph C. and his wife Margo Eubanks of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Ashley Ward and her husband Chris of Hernando, Miss., and James Eubanks of Little Rock; as well as three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Avery and Addalyn Grace Ward. She also is survived by a sister, Mary D. Carty of Mulberry, and a brother, Jim Carty of Collinsville, Okla. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Ralph T. Eubanks, and a brother, John Carty. A highlight of her life was working for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She also took great joy in Homemakers Clubs and Garden Clubs wherever she lived. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, and was active in Presbyterian Women and the Henker Friendship Sunday School Class. Betty traveled extensively with her husband, Ralph, following his retirement. Their deep interest in traveling – particularly to foreign countries – opened up a whole new world for them. She especially enjoyed the trip they took to Turkey. Betty will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother – sweet and kind, yet with an independent spirit. She enjoyed flower arranging and cooking, and passed on her love of cooking to both her daughter and son. Betty moved to Parkway Village in 2007. The family wishes to thank her loving caregivers and Arkansas Hospice. A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 27 at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, followed by a 4 p.m. graveside service at the New Cemetery in Mulberry, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark.
