James Wallis Marsh

Dr. James Wallis Marsh, age 91, of Warren, Arkansas, died Saturday, September 21, at Bradley County Medical Center. Dr. Marsh had practiced medicine in Warren for over 50 years. He was born December 11, 1921, in Limestone Gap, Oklahoma, a son of the late James Evrard Marsh and Halcyone Wallis Marsh. He was a graduate of Prescott High School. Dr. Marsh served during World War II in the US Army, Company B 153rd Infantry and the Army Air Corp, graduating from Aviation Cadet School in 1943, where he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He held a BS from the University of Arkansas, a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Arkansas and was a 1950 Graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr Marsh served a military medical internship with the 7th Air Force at Madigan General Army Hospital, Tacoma, Washington, finishing on June 30, 1951, with the rank of Captain. He located in Warren, Arkansas, in l951; was the founding partner in Marsh-George Clinic, a partner in Warren Aviation, Inc., holding several aviation licenses ratings; a partner in Brown Feed Store and the owner of the Town Shop. Dr. Marsh enjoyed horse racing and was the owner/partner in a number of horses. He was a Rotarian and served as Chief of Staff of the Bradley County Medical Center and a Board member and Chairman of the hospital for many years. Dr. Marsh was inducted into the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Hall of Fame in 2013. Surviving is his wife, LaDonna Trantham Marsh, whom he married on May 30, 1985, at Warren, Arkansas; two sons, Dr. Wallis Marsh, Jr, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Blake Marsh and wife Angela, Warren, Ark.; five daughters Kathy Marsh Nasworthy, Carrollton, Texas, Patty Marsh Mitchell and husband Bill, Texarkana, Ark., Cindy Marsh Smith and husband Bruce, Hot Springs, Ark., Dr. Dichelle George and husband John, Warren, Ark., Danae Watson and husband Wyatt, Russellville, Ark.; a brother in law D.J. Trantham, Bossier City, La., and a special caregiver, Jo Terry, Warren, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, Keith Nasworthy and wife, Erin, Dr. Allan Smith and wife, Lori, Tony Smith and wife, Molly, Dr. Adam Smith and wife, Wendy, Carson Marsh and wife, Ashley, Sarah Marsh, Lauren Marsh, Blake Marsh, Rebecca Marsh, Carley George, John Wesley George, Luke Watson and Will Watson; 6 great grandchildren, Nate Nasworthy, Elizabeth Nasworthy, Avery Smith, Owen Smith, Nina Smith and Mia Grace Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. William Edward Marsh and a sister, Ruth Alice Marsh Carter. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at First United Methodist Church. Burial in Oakland Cemetery at Monticello, Arkansas. Visitation 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, at Frazer's Funeral Home.
