C.P. Dail Jr. passed away at his home in Ashburn, Va. on April 10, 2014. He was 74 years of age. Born on March 1, 1940 and raised in Wynne, Ark. he was the son of Carl and Alma Dail. C.P. graduated from Wynne High School in 1959. He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in 1964. From college he started working for the American Red Cross (ARC) in Memphis in the Water Safety Division. He was then promoted to the regional ARC office in St. Louis and then to Washington DC and onto the national staff of the American Red Cross. His first assignment there was to revised the ARC First Aid Manuals. This task took him all across the United States meeting with various medical groups as well as the American Heart Association. After completing that task he was assigned to the European division of the ARC where he supervised the administration of Water Safety Instruction for the American military posts in the European Theater. He spent eight years living outside of Stuttgart Germany. C.P. loved traveling in Europe and took advantage of every opportunity visiting Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria to name a few, Paris and Rome were his favorite cities. One of his exceptional experiences was witnessing firsthand the fall of the Berlin Wall while on a routine inspection in the American Sector. After returning to the States he continue working on the national staff of the ARC. C.P. had a great sense of humor. When he first moved to Washington DC in the middle 70's some of his co workers often talked about two of their friends who owned a bar in Great Falls, Mont. From then on where ever he traveled he would send a post card to the City Bar. All it said was " Here on business--Best Regards--C.P." Before, during and after returning from Germany he would continue sending post cards to the City Bar. Several years later he was in the general area and popped into the bar on a Saturday night. He asked for Bob and Bill the owners of the bar. They said that's us. He replied "I'm C.P. did you get my post cards?" The first question they asked was how do you know us. He said I know your friends back in DC. Sitting on shelf behind the bar were his post cards. In 2004 he became a CTSM (Certified Trade Show Marketer). After 44 years of service C.P. retired from the ARC National Headquarters in 2008. He continued being a CTSM for the ARC until his death. While working for the ARC he co-authored a book on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. He was on the Board of Directors of the United Safe Boating Institute as Treasurer.
