Ernest A. Caraway

Ernest A. Caraway, III passed away on December 17th, 2014 at the age of 71. He was a resident of Searcy, but lived in Jonesboro, AR for the last 20 years. Ernest was born in Egypt, Arkansas on January 11, 1943. As the second of four children, he was the only boy. His older sister gave him the nickname "Man." Ernest loved his family and had a special place in his heart for his dogs. His passion for serving the hungry and poor motivated him to begin a food bank at Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Ark. He was awarded the "Heart of Service" award for his leadership of this program. He worked at GMAC for 30 years where he was promoted and transferred all over the country during his career. After retirement, he returned to Northeast Arkansas where he began several businesses: Answering Jonesboro, Interim Personnel, and Match Audit Service. His last position was in Jonesboro with Mid-south Bank, where he retired in 2013. Ernest is lovingly remembered by his wife Betty Caraway of Searcy, Ark.; his sister, Pat Caraway of Peoria, Ill.; his daughters, Mandy Lloyd (Rees) and Kara Abston (Robert) both of Searcy, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Macy Gladu (Ryan), Abby Lloyd, Callie Feather (Jacob), Tucker Lloyd, and Heidi Abston; one great-grandchild, William Gladu, and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gladys Caraway, and his sisters, Carol Dewitt and Donna Fox. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Powell Funeral Home (2602 West Beebe-Capps Exp., Searcy, Ark. 72143). The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Church of Christ food bank (1601 James Street, Jonesboro, Ark. 72401) or the Downtown Church of Christ food bank (900 North Main Street, Searcy, Ark. 72143). www.powellfuneralhome.net.
