Gloria Young Tappan

Gloria Young Tappan, 87, of Helena, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in Helena. Mrs. Tappan was born October 8, 1927 at Helena to the late Charles M. and Estelle Mae Colhouer Young. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music. She was a homemaker, retired teacher, gift shop owner, and member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Being a lifelong resident of Helena, she enjoyed many friends that shared her love of nature, literature, arts and St. Johns. She especially enjoyed sharing time with her family. Mrs. Tappan is survived by five sons, James A. Tappan, Jr. (Kristen) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Charles M. Tappan (Brooke) of Helena, David A. Tappan (Devora) of Batesville, Arkansas, John C. Tappan (Debbie) of Greensboro, North Carolina and Philip A. Tappan (Gina) of Little Rock, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James A. "Jimmy" Tappan; three sisters and three brothers. Memorial services for Gloria Young Tappan will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Helena. Father Russ Snapp and Father Danny Schieffler will officiate. The Family will receive guests immediately following the memorial service at the church. Memorials may be offered to St. John's Episcopal Church, 625 Pecan Street, Helena, Arkansas 72342.
