Scott Braswell Bowles

Scott Braswell Bowles, 37, of San Diego, Calif., passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 near his home in Ocean Beach. Born in Little Rock, Ark., on September 10, 1977, he grew up in Camden. He served honorably as a U.S. Naval submariner, sonar tech, and diver aboard the USS Columbus Attack Submarine. He graduated from the Diver's Institute of Technology in Bremerton, Wash., began a ten-year diving career with the maritime division of a San Diego defense contractor, and traveled extensively. He later became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and worked for Bob's Crane Service in San Diego. A lover of nature and the outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the beach, jogging, swimming, and football, especially the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. While a resident of Camden he was a member of the Reynolds Hunting Club. He is survived by his daughter, Sidney Rain Bowles of Santa Ysabel, Calif.; parents, John and Kathy Bowles of Camden, Ark.; sister, Caroline Bleckmann (David) of Portland, OR; sister, Emily Frost of Kansas City, Mo.; stepdaughter, Chloe Mills (Jason Robert) of Vista, alif.; maternal grandmother, Margie Braswell of Camden, Ark.; step-granddaughter, Mia Mancuso; nieces, Juliette Frost and Anneke Bleckmann, and nephews, Vaughn Frost and Ben Bleckmann. He is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he enjoyed many holiday gatherings. A memorial service to celebrate Scott's life will be held at La Jolla Presbyterian Church in La Jolla, Calif., on November 12, 2014. Another memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Camden, Ark. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Scott's memory to First Presbyterian Church in Camden, Ark., or to the Sidney Rain Bowles Scholarship Fund c/o Mustard Seed Foundation, 202 S Pine 102, Magnolia, Ark. 71753.
