James Hershell Smart

James Hershell Smart, 90, of Stephens, Arkansas past away on April 20, 2015. He was born February 8, 1925 in the Smart Oil Field near Stephens, Arkansas. He was the fourth of nine children born to Lewis and Maud Cambell Smart. Hershell served in the Navy during WWII as a gunner on Liberty ships. He worked in the oil fields of south Arkansas. Retiring after 38 years with Marathon Oil Co. He was a Mason for over 50 years, holding a 32nd degree and had served as master. He was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church, Stephens, Ark. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy Haltom Smart and daughter, Teresa Smart Langley; three brothers and four sisters. Hershell is survived by his second wife, Wanda Rushing Smart.; his daughter, Patty and husband Butch Lochala of Newport, Ar.; son-in-law ,Bill Langley and his wife Kathy of Camden, Ark.; grandsons and their wives, Brian and Donna Langley, Rod and Mary Kathryn Lochala, and Jimmy and Anna Langley; great-grandchildren, Pierce and John Peyton Langley, Mary Mills and Abby Lochala, Avery and Addison Langley. Also survived by his sister and husband, Eva Lena and C.J. Cheatham. He is also survived by step-children and their spouses, Mike and Diana Rushing, Judy and Howard Felts. Step-grandchildren,Julie Thibolaux, Russel Rushing, Cliff Rushing, Loren Lovell, Jason Felts, and Spencer Felts. Also 14 step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, April 25 at Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia, Ark. from 1-3 p.m. with services following. Interment will be in Stephens, Ar. at the Stephens Cemetery.
