Carl Preston

Carl Preston, Sr., age 99, died on Sunday August 2, 2015 at Eaglecrest Nursing Home & Rehab in Ash Flat, Ark. Carl was born on July 21, 1916 in Thayer, Mo. to Frank and Lillie (Scott) Preston. Carl attended Thayer schools and was the oldest survivor of Thayer High School's second football team. He worked 36 years as a brakeman for Cotton Belt Railroad out of Pine Bluff, Ark. from which he retired. He was married to his wife, Lucille (Murphy) Preston for 74 years/11 months and lovingly cared for her until she passed away. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a member of the Church of Christ in Mammoth Spring, Ark. He passed away peacefully with family by his bedside. Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Murphy) Preston; son-in-law, Ralph Gross; grandson, John Preston Gross; two sisters, Eva Childers of Thayer, Mo. and Evelyn Hall of Wortham, Texas. He is survived by one sister, Lena Daily of Thayer, Mo.; four children, Rosemary Gross of Pine Bluff, Ark., Carl (Sandy) Preston, Jr. of Monticello, Ark., Louis (Myra) Preston of Cherokee Village, Ark., Scott (Karen) Preston Sr. of White Hall, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Gross of Pine Bluff, Ark., Kyle (Mindy) Preston of Texarkana, Texas, Darren (Amber) Preston of Carthage, Texas, Curt (Andrea) Preston of Monticello, Ark., Karen Kalkbrenner of Jonesboro, Ark., Karla (Mark) Poe of Jonesboro, Ark., Paula (Jeff) Presley of Jonesboro, Ark., Rachael (James) Burks of Abilene, Texas, Scott Preston, Jr. of Jonesboro, Ark., Clayton Preston of Brandon, Miss.; 25 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. His grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Fuller-Hale South Funeral Home in Pine Bluff, Ark. on Thursday August 6th, 2015.
