Bro. Havis W Cooper

Bro. Havis Wayne Cooper of Sheridan, Arkansas was born October 30, 1932 in Willow, Arkansas the son of the late Raymond and May Davis Cooper. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1951 and from the Missionary Baptist Seminary in 1978. He also served in the Arkansas National Guard and the U.S. Air Force. Bro. Cooper pastored several churches during his life, Pleasant Home Missionary Baptist Church, Enon Missionary Baptist Church, Fairplay Missionary Baptist Church, New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church and Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville. While at New Prospect, he served as the moderator of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Association for three years and assistant director of the All Regions Youth Camp at Budd Creek for three years. In 1967, Bro. Cooper was ordained to the position of Deacon by Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock. In 1976, he was ordained to the full time ministry by Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan. Because of failing health, he retired from the ministry in 2001. Bro. Cooper died Tuesday, August 25, 2014 at Saline Memorial Hospice in Bryant at the age of 82. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Delmer E. Cooper and Rev. Delton Cooper. Survivors: wife of 60 years, Reba Faye Pumphrey Cooper of Sheridan; son, Michael Wayne Cooper of Bauxite; daughter, Cynthia Renae Cooper of Benton; sister, Emma Lee Wimberly of Sheridan, five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter on the way and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan with Bro. Brad Warren and Bro. Verlon Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Raymond Earl Cooper, Brian Lain, Michael Lain, Mathew Cooper, Kurt Neeley and Richard Sullivant.
