John Edward "Ed" Rutherford

John Edward "Ed" Rutherford of Sheridan, Arkansas was born December 1, 1918 in Sheridan, Arkansas, the son of the late George Delk and Mary Etta Stuckey Rutherford. He was an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, was a member and Past Master of Jacob Brump 160 Masonic Lodge in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, member and Past Patron of Union Chapter #40 and Sheridan Chapter #212 Order of the Eastern Star. He served his country in Europe in the Army Air Corp having fought in World War II. Mr. Rutherford was the last surviving class member of the Sheridan High School Class of 1936. The class had 39 students. He enjoyed traveling, having been to all 50 states twice. He also visited many countries and toured Israel at the age of 93. Mr. Rutherford passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at his home at the age 96. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Mathis Rutherford, an infant son, Eddie Glen Rutherford, and 2 half sisters, Verla wisely and Beverly Ellis. Survivors: wife of16 years, Nancy Floyd Rutherford of Sheridan; sons, Kevin and wife Karen Rutherford of Sheridan, Jeff Lowry and wife Katherine of Malvern; grandchildren, Kyle and wife Frankie Rutherford of Sheridan, Kristopher and wife Shannon Rutherford of Sheridan, Eric Hunter of Van Alstyne, Texas, Samantha Hunter of Springfield, Missouri, Joshua, Jacob and Katie Lowry of Malvern; great-grandchildren, Reese, Jaxton and Hadley Rutherford, half brother, Kenneth Rutherford and wife Gloria of Sheridan, brother-in-law, Charles Ellis of Sheridan, church family and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (intersection of Grant County Road 13 and 7, near Sheridan) with Bro. Danny Hill and Bro. Robert Ewing officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Larry Adams, Roy Garner, Rick McDonald, Calvin Floyd, James Floyd and Wendell Draper.
