Elaine M Miller

Elaine M. Miller, 82, passed away on Dec. 10, 2015, at the Maples Nursing Home at Har-Ber Meadows, in Springdale, Ark. She was born in Tacoma, Wash. on Dec. 31, 1932, the only child of John and Elsie Flaherty. Elaine was a classically trained soprano singer and pianist. She was a world traveler and had taught for the Air Force and at the American Cooperative School in Japan. While there she met and married Leonard Van Camp who was serving in the military. They had one child, Kathleen. After various tours of duty, including Burma and Bolivia, her husband retired from the US Army and they settled in Michigan. She continued as a substitute teacher, volunteered as a member of the Lake Orion, Michigan Police reserves and became a real estate agent. In 1990 she married Dale Miller, a Community College Math Instructor. They moved to Springdale, Ark. in November of 1992. She enjoyed sewing, reading, preparing recipes, and was an excellent cook. For the past decade she resided in University Place, Wash. She is survived by her husband Dale Miller, her daughter Kathleen Van Camp, and her son-in-law Michael Sovereign. Her final resting place will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma, Wash., next to her mother and father. No services are planned in Arkansas.
