Michael Oral Dillard, 66, son of the late Oral C and Mary Ann (Phillips) Dillard, was born Jan. 18, 1949 in Batesville, Ark. He departed this life Feb. 20, 2015 at Crown Point Healthcare and Rehab in Horseshoe Bend, Ark. of Glioblastoma (brain tumor.) Mike was a graduate of Violet Hill High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (1971) and Masters Degree in Education (1978) from Arkansas State University. Mike also served six years in the Army Reserve. He spent his life as a son, brother, uncle, husband, stepfather, provider and friend. At the time of his death he was retired from the State of Arkansas. During his working years, he taught school, worked at the North Central Unit Department of Corrections, the Izard County Road Department and was a cattle farmer. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Julia Dillard of the home; one sister and brother-in-law, Brenda (Dillard) and Bill Barnes of Franklin; one niece, Cathy and Cordell Wuthrich of Horseshoe Bend; one nephew, Jeffery D. Barnes of Dallas, Texas; two stepsons, Justin Burns and Jeremy Burns of Franklin; a special aunt, Nola Dillard of Myron; many cousins and a host of other relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Will and Edythe Phillips; and his paternal grandparents, Tollie C and Martha Cooksey Dillard. Funeral service will be Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Jerre Guthrie officiating. Burial will be at Violet Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 22 from 4-6 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
