Eve Shorter

Eve Shorter, 102, died January 10, 2015 at her home in Springdale. She was born in Kenosha, Wis. on December 24, 1912 to Frank and Anna Maustein Svoda. She graduated from Kenosha High School in 1929 and then moved to Chicago, Illinois to pursue her music career. She was one of the early members of the Songwriters Protective Association during the 1930's later renamed The Songwriters Guild of America. She professionally played the accordion and banjo until she married her husband of 51 years. She married John L Shorter in St. Louis in 1940. They later moved to Arkansas in August of 1968. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Shorter, one brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include one son, Roy and wife Cheryl Shorter of Fayetteville, four grandchildren, Jon, James, and Brian Shorter and Max Havens. Memorial services will be held at a date to be announced.
