Dr. Calvin Hanna

DR. CALVIN HANNA passed away July 2, 2015 at UAMS at the age of 92. He was born in Danville, Ill. on May 1, 1923. He was the son of Calvin Hanna and Jeannie Roland Hanna. His Alverta May Hanna of 66 years preceded him in death. Survivors include, daughter Dolores Middleton Dumond and Mike, son Christopher Hanna and wife Bobbie. A nephew Jerry Hathaway and Carol and several nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Dr. Hanna was involved in numerous hobbies; he was an Eagle Boy Scout. He started flying airplanes at 20. He enlisted in the Navy as a Cadet. Active duty for 1942-1945. Retired as a Naval Aviator and ensign. Attended the University of Illinois and Iowa. He was a Professor at University of Tennessee, Vermont and Arkansas. He taught Pharmacology and Ophthalmology. Also, a visiting Professor at NIH in Washington, D.C. Also, Louisiana Medical Center in New Orleans, La.. He researched with numerous drugs and reactions to the body. Published numerous documents and books pertaining to the eye. He was a man of science. He was highly intelligent. He loved to tell people, "his stories." He was self taught. Growing up in the Depression Era he was a collector of many things. He gave cameras and photos to the University of Arkansas, so the next generation could learn. He also enjoyed his gardens, his dogs, travels, and photography. Visitation will be at Huson Funeral home from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday July 5, 2015. Graveside will be Monday, July 6, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
