Michael Wayne Norwood

Michael Wayne Norwood Sr., 62, of Van Buren, Ark. transitioned on Sunday, June 28, 2015. Served on active duty in the United States Army. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 2000 as a Major from the 41st Aerial Port Squadron. He also worked in Van Buren and Fort Smith public schools for the last 35 years as a teacher, coach, and most recently serving as the Vice Principal of Kimmons Jr. High School in Fort Smith. Michael was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and a lifetime member and deacon of Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Van Buren, Ark. Those left to celebrate his legacy and life are his loving wife, Robbie Norwood; children, Michael (Shea) Norwood Jr., Adrian (Kaelin) Norwood, both of Van Buren, Ark., Tiffany (Sean) Jarrett of Tulsa, Okla.; siblings, Pam Toney, Ann Jones, Catherine Thomas, all of Fort Smith, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Public Memorial: Sunday, 5-6 p.m. at Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 35 S. 22nd St. Van Buren, Ark. Homegoing Celebration: Monday, 11 a.m. at St. James Baptist Church, 425 High Street Fort Smith, Ark.; Pastor Sean Jarrett, officiating.
