Photo of Steve M. Jones
Steve M. Jones, 73, resident of Fox Ridge, Bryant, Ark., left us on July 2, 2015. Steve was born Nov. 20, 1941 in Little Rock, Ark. to Thurman Jones and Mahalia (Harrison) Jones. He is survived by his wife of 54 Years, Barbara Grace (Zanoff) Jones, brother; Tomboy Jones (Carmalita), sister; Nina Sue (Jones) Hester (Ronnie), two daughters; Connie Lynn (Jones) Riley (Joe) and Cindy (Jones) King, grandchildren; David Riley (Jessica), SSGT. Tyler Riley U.S. A. F. in Rota, Spain with wife Diana and their four children, Bradley, Eliza, Brysen and Aria, grandson; Chad King of Benton, Ark. Steve spent most of his life living and working in the Geyer Springs area. He worked at Teletype, AT&T and Lucent Plants. After retiring, he and a good friend, Ray Rolhman, started a handyman business and then Steve returned to work maintenance with another friend, Bob Cauley, at the Lucent plant. All this time Steve and Barbara spent many hours volunteering at Geyer Springs Community Center, Telephone Pioneers, St. Vincent Hospital, and St. Theresa's Church. Steve and Ray also built wheelchair ramps for disabled folks. They were also pretty good at square dancing and hosting backyard pool parties with all us kin folk. As happens, to a lot of us, things come along we have no control over, health being a big one. Health issues forced them from their home of many years and a new life at "Fox Ridge Assisted Living Center" in Bryant, Ark. This turned out to be a great move, thanks to the great staff at Fox Ridge. If they needed help, help was there quickly. Thanks go out to the nurses, CNA's, aides, support staff and administrators, who as a team increased Steve's life span and made it worth living. Steve's health lately has been a struggle with respiratory problems. Steve would probably sum it all up by saying, "I tried, but it sho' was hard." Steve is gone from our sight now but he will however, remain in our hearts and minds. I will miss him greatly. Our moms were sisters and we married sisters. I feel like I've lost two kinfolk. There will be a celebration of Steve's life at Fox Ridge in Bryant, in the main hall, on Saturday, July 11, from 1-3 p.m. Please dress casual and comfortable! Barbara and the girls would prefer no flowers, instead make a donation to the Arkansas Children's Hospital, (donation envelopes will be available) or to a worthy charity of your choice. Steve will be cremated with no interment. Honorary pallbearers are: David Riley, SSGT. Tyler Riley U.S.A.F., Chad King, Cory Shields and A.J. Bailey. Fr. Mark Wood, Pastor at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, and Pastor Emil Woerner of Friends in Christ Church of Bryant, who also provides Sunday service for the residents at Fox Ridge will speak at the gathering. Arrangements are by Dial and Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Highway 5 North, Bryant, Ark. To sign online guestbook visit www.dialanddudleyfuneralhome.com.
