IDA EVELYN COOK died Feb. 27, 2015 at Hospice Home Care Inpatient Center in Little Rock. She was born on Sept. 29, 1925 in Sherrill, Ark to the late Pearl (Sullivan) and John W. Moore. She received her early education at Barrett school in Sherrill, graduating in 1943. Upon graduation in May, she attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway (now UCA) for the summer and began her teaching career the following Sept. She continued her education while teaching and received her degree in 1951. She married the late Joe L. Cook of Carthage, Ark. on May 29, 1948. They made their home in Mabelvale for many years and were active members of Mabelvale United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cook was a faithful member of the Dora Hopkins United Methodist Women's Circle and the Chapel Sunday School Class until her ill health prevented her participation. She retired from her teaching career in 1977, after 34 years in the classroom. She taught math at Mabelvale and Cloverdale Jr High Schools for most of her career. She stayed in touch with many of her students, especially through the annual class reunions to which she always looked forward. During her recent illness, she was honored with many visits, letters, and cards from her former students. Mrs. Cook was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Chapter, for more than 50 years. She served as chapter treasurer for many years. In 2004 she was honored with a Delta Kappa Gamma 50-year membership pin. She was the first person, internationally, to receive this pin. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers: Edward, Ernest, and Delbert Moore, and two sisters: Inis Lutrell and Lois Harper. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 9 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Mabelvale United Methodist Church with funeral services immediately afterwards at 10 a.m. at the church. Services are under the direction of Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Highway 5 North, Alexander, Ark. 72002. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mabelvale United Methodist Church, 10500 Woodman, Mabelvale, Ark. 72103.
