Cheryl Jean Gardner-Lewins

Cheryl Jean Alford Gardner-Lewins, 69, of Mabelvale, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015. She was born April 23, 1946 in Little Rock, where she lived for several years. She attended Pine Bluff High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. Cheryl earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Central Arkansas and a master's degree in English literature from Arkansas State University. She taught English and Spanish classes for schools in Pulaski County for more than 10 years. She taught college-level courses at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and at area colleges in Cleveland, Ohio. A voracious reader and history buff, Cheryl's wit and humor will be sorely missed. She is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Gardner, and her uncle, Dr. Boyce Alford. She is survived by mother, Joyce Alford Gardner of Bryant; brother, Dr. Dan Gardner of Benton; daughter, Elizabeth Amy; grand-daughter, Isabella Amy of Cleveland, Ohio; aunt, Dorothy Alford of Pine Bluff; cousin, James Alford of Pine Bluff; cousin, Mike Alford of Houston, Texas; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other cherished family members; and her beloved pets. Visitation will be held at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Hwy. 5 North, Bryant, Thursday, Oct. 8, 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held Friday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m., also at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home.
