Samuel "Sam" E. Kitchens, 79, of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away on April 5, 2016. Sam was born September 5, 1936, in Parkin, Arkansas, to Fletcher R. and Lizzie Kitchens. Sam became a Christian on April 7, 1957, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Palestine, Arkansas, and was a member of Cross Church Northwest Arkansas, Springdale campus. Sam served in the Army National Guard for six years. In 1998, Sam retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 40 years of service. He was an avid crappie fisherman, life-long Razorback football fan, and faithful friend. He loved his family well and told the best stories to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called him Papa. Sam is survived by Hazel L. Oxner Kitchens of the home; daughter, Teresa Bradford of West Memphis, Arkansas; stepdaughter, Cindy Loewer of Cave Springs, Arkansas; stepson David Byrd of Bentonville, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Rose of Forrest City, Arkansas, and Faye Kitchens of Lamar, Arkansas; brothers, James Kitchens of Marianna, Arkansas, and David Kitchens of West Memphis, Arkansas. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher R. and Lizzie Kitchens, and brother, Fletcher Kitchens. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 7, 5-7 p.m. at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home, 3236 West Huntsville Avenue, Springdale, Arkansas. Services will be held on Friday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home, 3236 West Huntsville Avenue, Springdale, Arkansas. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Kyle Avey, Blake Hopper, Colin Hopper, Aaron Loewer, Evan Loewer, and Daren Morrow. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Estep, Randy Fuqua, Dr. W.D. Harris, Glen Morgan, Clyde Neil, Rufus Organ, Wally Schultz, Dan Webb, and Steve Youngers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Church, 1709 Johnson Road, Springdale, Ark. 72762; the Frank & Barbara Broyles Alzheimer's Foundation, 3810 North Front Street Suite 3, Fayetteville, Ark. 72703; or Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, Ark. 72762.
