Patricia Louise Guthary Marts of Springdale, Ark., passed away Tuesday morning, April 12, 2016, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale after a short hospitalization. She was born December 3, 1932, in Gentry, Ark., to Margie Leach Guthary and Andy McClinton Guthary. She attended Gentry Public Schools and graduated as Salutatorian of her class. She attended John Brown University for two years, then graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education. She taught high school Home Economics in Clarksville, Ark., where she married Donald K. Marts. He was co-owner of The Herald-Democrat, a weekly newspaper and job printing shop. After teaching for six years, she stayed home to raise her two sons, Andy and Kent. She began working at the Johnson County Hospital as Food Service Supervisor and held that position for six years. The newspaper/job printing plant was sold and the family moved to Springdale, where she returned to the University of Arkansas and received her Master of Science Degree in Nutrition. Pat then worked as a Clinical Dietitian at Springdale Memorial Hospital for two years, and then became the Director of Nutrition Services for 16 years before retiring. She was active in the Springdale Presbyterian Church, the Northwest Arkansas District Dietetic Association and the state Dietetic Association. After retirement, she became a member of the Hospital Auxiliary where she worked in the gift shop. She was a member of the Gentry Order of Easter Star No. 359. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bobby Gene Guthary; and a sister, Betty Sue Guthary. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Donald K. Marts; two sons, Andy (Tammy) of Mountain Home, Ark., Kent (Natalie) of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister, Mary Ruth Guthary Schomberg ( David) of Holstein, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Arline Guthary of Sapulpa, Okla.; a brother-in-law, Larry Marts of Altus, Ark.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; four nieces; and six great-nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Springdale, 100 S. Gutensohn, Springdale, Ark. 72762. There will be no visitation. Memorial service, followed by a reception, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church of Springdale. Arrangements are with Heritage Funeral Home.
