Mayme LaClede Staggs

Mayme LaClede Staggs, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, April 23, in Searcy. She and her twin sister, Mabel, were born on April 2, 1922, to Albert and Bertha Simpson of the Stony Point community in Northwest Arkansas, joining a family of eight siblings. Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles; a son, Stanley; and her nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include son Bill (Clara) of Springdale, and daughter Jan (Steve) of Searcy; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Mayme worked for the Fayetteville Public Schools for many years as assistant to the school district dietician. She was an active member of the North Street (now Mount Comfort) Church of Christ and also participated in the Home Demonstration Club and the Gardening Club, delivered Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed traveling to such places Hawaii, Ireland, Alaska, and Israel. Mayme made a lasting mark in this life through her strong faith and opinions, her involvement in clubs and service organizations, and her talents as a seamstress, flower arranger, and quilter. A lover of roses and gardening, she won many blue ribbons for her entries in the Washington County Fair. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Mount Comfort Church of Christ in Fayetteville, with visitation at 1.
