Miriam (Peggy) Wall Hays

Miriam (Peggy) Wall Hays, 78, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, August 14, 2016. She was born in Little Rock September 12, 1937 and graduated from Central High School in 1955. She attended Randolph Macon College and graduated from the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville in 1959 with a BS in Psychology. She received her MSW from University of Arkansas – Little Rock in 1976 and Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School in 1990. Peggy became an ordained Deacon in 1990 and an ordained Priest in 1991. Peggy was a Priest at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Conway for 8 years until her retirement in 1998. Peggy was loved by many and her church family remained dear to her heart after retirement. Peggy loved spending time with her family and friends especially her dream circle friends. She adored her cats and was a strong advocate for the humane treatment of all animals. Peggy dedicated her life to helping others including any stray animal that might come her way. Peggy was a healing presence wherever she went and was an integral part of the prayer shawl ministry at St. Peter's. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone and had a gentle, kind, loving spirit. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Steele Hays, parents, Verna Bates Wall and Harry B. Wall and sister, Gail Wall Richardson. She is survived by two sons, Leonard Thompson (Wendy) of Little Rock, Ark., Harry B. Thompson of Blue Ridge, Ga., daughter Miriam Lyde Thompson (Terry Goddard) of San Antonio, Texas, two grandsons, Dylan and Tristan Thompson, and stepchildren, Steele Hays (Melody) of Washington, D.C ., Melissa Licon (Val) of Reno, Nev., Sarah Facciobene (Carmen) of Potomac, Md., as well as their children. A celebration of Peggy's life will take place at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 925 Mitchell St. Conway, Ark. 72032, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 1 p.m.. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 19, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. In Lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Peter's Episcopal Church or the Humane Society.
