Papaw "Jim" Duke, 74, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, died Friday, August 26, 2016 in Batesville. He was born in Caraway, Ark., on April 17, 1942 to Jessie Earl and Zula Ethelene (Mangrum) Duke. Jim was a U. S. Army veteran and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a retired back-hoe operator and a member of the Spring River Baptist Church in Hardy. Jim was an avid deer hunter and a loving Papaw. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Sue (Nichols) Duke of Cherokee Village; a son, James R. Duke and wife, Shelia, of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Rhonda A. Ashcraft and husband, Jim, of Millington, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Caleb Ashcraft and Colin Ashcraft. Other survivors include two brothers, Larry Duke of Gordonsville, Tenn. and Danny Duke of Michigan City, Ind.; two sisters, Erlene Davis of Watertown, Tenn., and Mary Louise Panhorst of Paragould, Ark.; and all his friends at McDonald's in Hardy. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Melvin Eugene Duke. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at Spring River Baptist Church in Hardy with Terry Linderman officiating.
