Elizabeth "Sissy" Cash Reed, professor and resident of Jacksonville, Fla., died on Dec. 9, 2016, at the age of 91. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Lissa Fiser Gold and Leonora Reed St. Laurent (Philip), both of Jacksonville; grandsons, Noel Reed Fiser (Carolyn) of Bainbridge Island, Washington; Barrett H. Fiser (Tonya Lee) of Ocean Grove, New Jersey; and Patrick Cash St. Laurent of Jacksonville; and her sister-in-law, Nina Warren Cash of North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Reed, Jr., and her brothers James Barrett Cash, Jr., and John Robert Cash. Sissy was born in Hazen, Ark., on Jan. 31, 1925, to Annie Graves Cash and James Barrett Cash. She earned her BA degree from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and her MA from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Sissy taught English language and literature at the high school level and then as a professor at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She and her husband moved to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1968 where they both taught at Florida State College of Jacksonville until they retired. Following retirement, they traveled extensively in Europe, especially in Greece. In addition to her love for travel, Sissy was a member of the Woman's Club, book and bridge clubs, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She belonged to the San Jose Episcopal Church, where she frequently volunteered her time. Throughout her life she loved theatre and, having moved to Jacksonville, often appeared on stage at Theatre Jax and Players by the Sea. She was an exceptional storyteller whose many tales, though sometimes embellished and quite dramatic, kept everyone entertained. A memorial service for Sissy will be announced at a later date. This spring her ashes will be buried with her husband Charles in Russellville, Ark. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
