David Edward Halstead

David Edward Halstead, age 82, of Redfield, died Monday, February 1, 2016. Born October 23, 1933 at Bloomingrose, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Ezra French Halstead and Etta McCalister Halstead. He graduated from Sherman High School in Seth, W.Va. in 1952. Mr. Halstead proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1957 and was stationed in Korea and at Quantico, Va. After his service, he was active in Veteran's organizations, serving as Commander of the Windam Ford American Legion Post 343 at Redfield and as State Vice-Commander for Arkansas. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He worked at International Paper Company, retiring as a supervisor and safety officer after 32 years of service. Mr. Halstead and his late wife, Wilma Jean Rinehart Halstead, were pillars of the Redfield community for many years. He served on the Redfield City Council four years, and was Mayor for eight years. The Halsteads were in charge of the Redfield Cemetery for 12 years which saw many improvements during that time. They could also be seen in town and on the interstate exit picking up trash to help make Redfield a better place to live. He was a longtime active member of Redfield Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Halstead and Dan Halstead; and a sister, Jo Tilson. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Kindy (Dale) of Little Rock, Susan Cooney (Larry) of Stafford, Va., and Carol Hampton (Troy) of Cabot; two sisters, Lucille Green and Margie Cummings; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 6, 2016, 2 p.m. at Redfield Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Micah Deaton officiating. Burial will follow in Redfield Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Redfield Missionary Baptist Church.
