Mary Ann Lofton Wright

Mary Ann Lofton Wright was born May 13, 1935 to the late Vada Haley Lofton and John M. Lofton in Little Rock, Arkansas and is the widow of Edward L. Wright, Jr. Mary Ann passed away February 10, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Wallace Wright, of New York, NY, two nephews, five nieces, four grand-nieces, and three grand-nephews. Mary Ann was a 1953 graduate of Little Rock High School and was a lifetime member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. She graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in 1957 with a major in English, which she taught for three years at the newly formed Hall High School in Little Rock before marrying in 1960. Mary Ann was an active member of the Little Rock Junior League for 15 years. She served on the vestry of Trinity and was the Sunday School Superintendent in the mid-1970s. She then began working in the administrative office at The Cathedral School, where she eventually became assistant and then interim Head. The Cathedral School instituted the Mary Ann Wright award for excellence in teaching. In the late 1990s, she earned a tutoring certificate to work with elementary school students who were behind in reading. Mary Ann moved to New Mexico in 1999 and tutored students for more than 10 years before retiring. She tutored students primarily at the Manzano Day School in Albuquerque. Mary Ann was friendly, engaging, and loved to dance. She was an avid reader, animal lover, and travel enthusiast. She adored the theater – especially in New York – and passed that appreciation on to her daughter. A Memorial Service will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas at a later date.
