George Meredith West

George Meredith West of North Little Rock died January 3, 2016. He was born in Liberal, Kansas February 16, 1934 to the late C.E. (Edward) and Wynona Pearl Meredith West. His parents and a brother, James Nelson (J.N.) West and nephew, Jonathan West preceded him in death. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1952, attended college at Arkansas Tech, Russellville and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was a member of the Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. George was a Baptist by faith and had been a member of Levy Baptist Church since 1943 and served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon for 30 years and a Trustee for more than 20 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, attending the Engineer School at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, serving with the 48th Engineers at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois and the 30th Engineering Topographic Surveying Battalion, Presidio of San Francisco, California, including one year temporary duty in Iran as a Topographic Surveyor. He was a Professional Surveyor, being the owner of West Surveying in Jacksonville, Arkansas for 28 years prior to serving 13 years with the Surveys Division of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, before retiring in 2005. He was a Life Member of the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors, having served in various capacities, including its eleventh president (1978-1979). George is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Joy Sutton West of North Little Rock; his son, George Sutton West, his wife Mary Ester Floyd West, their daughters, Mary Charles West and Anna Kathleen West of North Little Rock, his son, Keith Meredith West, his wife Melissa Renee Weeks West, their daughter Meredith Renee West and son, Mathew Sutton West of Sherwood. He is also survived by a sister, Edwyna Nanette West McCoy, a brother, Norvell Edward West and sister-in–law, Linda Fay Lverett West, sister-in-law, Jane Slaughter West; nephews and nieces, Chris Edward West, George Stanfield West, Wynona Ann McCoy Cloud, Jean Marie McCoy Keel, Amanda McCoy Johnson, Jeffery Nelson West. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at Levy Baptist Church. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
