John H. Lewis went to live with the Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2016. John was born to Ean and Mary Lewis, October 15, 1937 in McKamie Arkansas. Following high school, John served four years in the Air Force. He went on to complete his education at Texarkana Community College. He met and married the love of his life, Cardie Lee Bradley, on December 26, 1966. That union was ultimately blessed with one son, Frederick F. Lewis. As a man of faith, John professed his faith and love for Christ at Harmony Church of Christ. He continued to be a "good and faithful servant" until the Lord called him to a greater service. John gave constantly to his community by serving for twelve years on the Hempstead County Quorum Court as Justice of the Peace District Eight. He served several terms in the 1980s and 90s, during which time he served as Notary Public. He was also a former board member of the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department Association. John worked for Day and Zimmerman Ammunition for fourteen years before his twenty-five year tenure with Georgia Pacific Paper Mill as Quality Assurance Inspector. He retired from work to a more committed life of service in 2001. He provided full time care to his loving wife of 40 years until her passing. His constant life of service was highlighted by his more than 30 years of service to the Lions Club. In 1984, John became a charter member of the Saratoga Tri-County Lions Club. He previously served as President and Board Member. John served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Saratoga Tri-County Club. Some of the of many offices John held over the years included District Governor of Arkansas District 7-L, Vice District Governor, Deputy District Governor, Region Chairman and Zone Chairman. In honor of his service, John received the Vice District Governor Leadership Plaque, two Certificates of Appreciation, International President's Commendation and International President's Certificate of Appreciation. John traveled the state in his work for the Lions Club and was instrumental in establishing several new clubs, including the Little River and Texarkana Evening Clubs. He also worked with the Leo Youth of Lions. He was an active supporter and advocate of the work of the Lions Clubs until his death. John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents as well as two brothers and two sisters. Left to celebrate his life and mourn his passing is his devoted and loving son Frederick F. Lewis, and two brothers and four sisters.
