Gerald E. Renegar

Lt. Col. Gerald E. Renegar (Ret.), age 95, of Springdale, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Springfield, Missouri. He was born December 27, 1920 in Harmony, North Carolina, the son of Edgar Dallas and Daisy Gross Renegar. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Skip Renegar, Harold Renegar and Ray Renegar and two sisters, Lois Thompson and Hazel Smith. He was a retired Lt. Col., having served in World War II, Vietnam and Korean Wars. He was a member of Cedar Bay Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida and a member of the Springdale and Alexandria, Louisiana VFW and the American Legion Post in Alexandria, Louisiana. Gerald was one of six boys. All entered military service and the Congressional record shows they collectively have the most years of military service of any family in America. Gerald went from Pvt. to Lt. Colonel, the hard path, and was at Normandy Beach on D-day, attached to a British Ranger Batallion. He was at Bastogne, Germany and was promoted to Captain by General Patton and then served on Patton's staff. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Nell B. Renegar; two sons, Dr. Gary E. Renegar and wife Billie of Fayetteville and Jimmie D. Renegar and wife Becky of Fayetteville; a daughter, Penni Arney and husband David of Branson, Missouri; two brothers, Roland Renegar of Elon, North Carolina and Jack Renegar of Jacksonville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Kristi Lewis, Karen Gentz, Kathy Plunkett, Shannon Dillard, Dana Renegar, Mandy Sherman and Allison Bramhall and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 12 p.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 at Moore's Chapel followed by service at 1 p.m. with Dr. Gary Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville National Cemetery with full military honors, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
