Jack Carroll Mackey, 78, of St. Cloud, Fla. and Springdale, Ark. Just after midnight on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, Jack passed away after a two-year battle with cancer at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. Jack was 78 years old. Jack was born in Noble, Mo. to Lloyd Dalton Mackey and Faye Eugenia Mackey on Nov. 11, 1937. Jack spent his early childhood in Souder, Rockbridge, and southeast Missouri. Jack was truly raised by his entire family. He spent much of his childhood with his Grandma Minnie and Grandpa Arch where he experienced outhouses, pumping water, and walking 'six miles to school in the snow'. He also lived with his father above Lloyd's general store and with his mother on a family farm. He attended Souder School and Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan. After serving with the United States Navy, he attended Park College in Parkville, Mo. Jack spent many years in retail. He began working as an assistant manager for JC Penney, and then continued working in management for Walmart. From 1972-1983, he moved with the young company 12 times in 11 years. He was an active member of the Springdale Rotary Club. After 12 years in Springdale, Ark. raising his children, he entered western wear retail and lived in Austin, Texas; Brownsville, Texas; Santa Fe, N.M.; Flagstaff, Ariz.; and St. Cloud, Fla. He spent many weekends at the Kissimmee Rodeo and Silver Spurs rodeo while residing in St. Cloud the last four years. Jack spent his life perfecting his laugh, known by those close to him as the "Mackey Shake", which has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. Jack is preceded in death by his daughter, Juli Kay Brown; his father, Lloyd Dalton Mackey; his mother, Kaye E. Steinmeir; his stepfather, George Alvin Steinmeir; and his sisters, Dorothy Lee Mackey and Charlotte Delores Mackey. Jack is survived by daughter, Marjorie Jay Hignite, son-in-law, Allen Michael, and grandchildren: Jackson Elijah, Mary Emma, and John Paul; son, John Parker Mackey, daughter-in-law, Leslie Lee, and grandchildren: Cooper Monroe, Mallory Lee, and Sutton Jack; son-in-law, Douglas Edward Brown and grandchildren, Jon Blake and Lacey Rae; sister, Marjorie Kaye Costello and brother, George Wayne Steinmeir; and former wife, Judith Whiting Higginbottom and husband, Marvin and many other loved family members. Jack's ashes will be spread at a ceremony in Souder, Mo. in the summer of 2016. Thank you, Circle of Life Hospice, for blessing our family through this difficult time.
