Leroy Anthony Verucchi

Leroy Anthony Verucchi, 84 of Springdale passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born August 22, 1931 in Tontitown, Arkansas to Virgil and Emma Sbanotto Verucchi. Leroy enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and coaching softball. He played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals as a catcher. He served in the United States Army, in the infantry division where he led a field artillery unit that fired howitzers, as well as catching for the Fort Chaffee Army Baseball Team. He grew up in Tontitown and was a long time custom home contractor in Northwest Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Virgil Verucchi Jr. and one grandson, Aaron Perkins. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Verucchi of the home; one son, David Verucchi and wife Leigh of Springdale; one daughter, Laura Perkins and husband Jay of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Frances Franco of Tontitown and Barbara Faraci and husband Victor of Encino, California; four grandchildren, Evan Verucchi, Nic Verucchi, Elle Verucchi and Ashley Perkins. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springdale. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Tontitown. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church with a rosary to immediately follow at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your charity of choice.
