Nona Mae Mathis Taylor of Grapevine, Arkansas was born September 14, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Noble Dewey and Myrtle Mae Hill Mathis. She was a member of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Grapevine. Her life revolved around her church, husband, children and grandchildren. For over 45 years she served her Lord by playing the piano and organ at His church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and teaching Sunday School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Taylor died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Trinity Village Nursing Home in Pine Bluff at the age of 79. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Maxsie Taylor, and her brothers, Charles Mathis and Kenneth Mathis. Survivors: son, Todd Taylor of Little Rock and fiancé Robin Smithey; daughter, Alicia Duncan and husband David of Grapevine; grandchildren, Chris and wife Cassie Duncan and Rachael Duncan and fiancé Cody Flewellen and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Taylor officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9 until 10 a.m. at the funeral home. For many years, Mrs. Taylor was treasurer of the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. It held a special place in her heart. So, in lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 60, Grapevine, Arkansas 72057.
