B. Reid Holiman, 88, of Springdale, Ark. died May 18, 2016 at Circle of Life Hospice of complications arising from cancer. Reid was born February 11, 1928 in Sheridan, Ark. to Milburn and Jennie Holiman. He had one brother, James Russell Holiman. Near the end of World War II, Reid entered the United States Navy completing his basic training in San Diego, Calif. with a subsequent tour of duty at the Navy Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Reid married Jackie Jordan of Mulberry, Ark. on August 20, 1950 while an undergraduate at the College of the Ozarks. He graduated with a degree in pharmacy from the University of Arkansas and owned, or was a partner in, drug stores in Ozark, Ark.; Springdale, Ark.; and Springfield, Mo. Reid and Jackie moved to Springdale in 1959, opening Holiman's Drug on Highway 71 South. He sold the store and retired in 1995. During his career Reid served on several boards and commissions including many years as a board member, and a term as President, of the Arkansas Pharmacist Association. Reid also served the group as their interim association executive director and as lobbyist at the General Assembly during 1985, 1989 and 1991. Governor Dale Bumpers appointed Holiman to the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy from 1972 to 1977 where he also served a term as board president. He was named Arkansas Pharmacist of the Year in 1978 and 1985 and served on the Professional Relations Committee of the National Association of Retail Druggists. Reid's career turned to politics in 1992 when he was elected to the Arkansas State Senate. He was previously appointed by Governor Bill Clinton to the Arkansas Alcohol Beverage Control Board and also served then University of Arkansas President, Ray Thornton, as a lobbyist for the University System. Reid is survived by his wife, Jackie of the home; three sons, Michael Reid Holiman and his wife Carla Stark Holiman of Atlanta, Ga.; James Randall Holiman of Shell Knob, Mo.; and Brett Jordan Holiman and his wife Jamie McAlister Holiman of Little Rock. Reid and Jackie have eight grandchildren, Meagan Holiman, Matt Holiman, Jackson Holiman, Rebekah Holiman, Jordan Holiman, Chase Holiman, Mason Holiman and John Thomas Holiman. Reid was predeceased by his parents Milburn and Jennie Holiman of Sheridan and his brother James Russell Holiman.
