Alfred Russ Jr., 77, slipped away May 23, 2016. Born in LR, March 30, 1939 to Alfred Russ Sr. and Mildred Mann Russ who preceded him in death. Graduated in the first senior class from Horace Mann High School in 1956, at 17, and immediately headed off to USAF basic training. He became one of our nation's youngest "Cold Warriors" when he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command based at Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan with the awesome responsibility of maintaining the Mark 6 Nuclear Freefall Device before his 18th birthday. A US Postal Service retiree; co-owned Al's Liquor Store with father; and family owned Out Of The Attic History Gallery. Survivors: wife of 52 years, Faye Perry Russ; sons, Alfred III (Lucky) Fort Worth, Texas; Roderic (Rod), LR; Bryan Germaine (BG), Bryant, Ark.; sister, Melrita Russ (Clenard "Sal") Bonner; seven grandchildren, a host of wonderful sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and close friends. A Celebration of Life: Saturday, May 28th, 5-7 p.m. at Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester, LR 72206. Interment, Tuesday, May 31st, at 11 a.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue, Sherwood, Ark. 72120. Family requests donations to Friends Of Haven of Rest Cemetery, "Out of the Attic" History Gallery or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
