Roy Owen Bolin

Roy Owen Bolin, 97, passed away May 17, 2016. He was born June 22, 1918 in Perry, Oklahoma to Samuel Arthur Bolin Sr. and Blanche Edithe Coldren Bolin. Roy was the youngest of four children. He married Frances Test on August 18, 1940. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, two brothers, Kenneth Coldren Bolin and Samuel Arthur Bolin, Jr., one sister, Martha Margaret Bolin Hunt, son-in-law Owen David and grandson Samuel Jay Bolin II. He is survived by three children: James Donald Bolin (Jean), of Newmarket, Ontario Canada; Donna Jo Bolin David of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Samuel Jay Bolin (Sue) of Springdale, Arkansas, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Roy was a Christian and a Mason. He belonged to the First Christian Church of Gentry for many years. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in November of 1939. Roy was an active member of the Gentry Masonic Lodge for over 60 years - serving many years as Secretary. He was also a member of the order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Roy was a veteran of World War II. He served in the in the motor pool of the 21st Infantry Regiment of the 24th Division of the United States Army in the Philippines' and Japan. He attained the rank of sergeant. He was a charter member of the Lions Club in Gentry. Roy attended John Brown University. He worked in the post office of Gentry for eight years before he started carrying the mail on Route 3 out of Gentry, which lasted for 28 years. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Gentry. Private burial will precede the service.
