John Edward Ivy

John Edward Ivy, 85, of Hampton passed to his eternal life at 4:35 Sunday Morning at his daughter's home holding her hand and listening to Elvis Presley gospel music after a long hard fight with cancer. He was born Aug. 7,1930 to Horace and Georgia Ginn Ivy in Harrell. He was one of four boys and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Ivy, Sterling Ginn Ivy, Sr. and Buddy Ivy. He is survived by three children, Ronnie Ivy of Hampton, Donald Ivy and wife Michele of Hampton, Becky Ivy Powell and husband Curtis of Camden. He is survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great children, and was Papaw to nearly every child in Hampton. He started his career in farming that led him to his long sales career with Brown Dowling International Co. in farm equipment sales, and he finished his career in auto sales. His true love was gardening and had a full garden through age 85. He loved people and was well known for his "Hey you good looking thang." He led a life as full of life as he was. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home at Hampton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Hampton with Rev. Clint Ritchie, Pastor of Yazoo City Baptist Church, formerly Pastor of First Baptist Church Hampton. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery.
