Pearl Lea Halsey

Pearl Halsey, 92, left this life to her life in heaven on October 25, 2016. Pearl was born March 28, 1924 in Damascus, Arkansas, to John Oliver and Lucy Hall Dixon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Oran Halsey, her beloved son, Joe Oran Halsey, her parents, and seven siblings, Floy Glover, Lema Bradshaw, Winnie Goodnight, Joe Dixon, Quinton Dixon, Jean Martin, and Vernon Dixon. She is survived by her two daughters, Pat Torian and husband Frank, Pam Day and husband Jim, all of Greenbrier, her granddaughters, Christy Torian of Denver, Colorado, Kelly Torian of Houston, Texas, April Tilley and her husband Doug of Greenbrier, three great-grandchildren, Ally Torian of Houston, Texas and Hannah and Tanner Tilley of Greenbrier, and nieces and nephews. Pearl grew up in Guy, Arkansas and attended Guy-Perkins High School, where she enjoyed and excelled playing basketball. She and her husband moved to Greenbrier in the early 60's and there she was an active member of Greenbrier First United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Woman, served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, worship chairman and member of the administrative board. She and her husband donated the building site on which the new Greenbrier First United Methodist Church was built. During the planning and building of the church, one member said, "She brought elegance to our church." Pearl volunteered as a 4-H Club leader and received the 4-H Club state award for leadership in publicity. Pearl held offices in and received the Woman of the Year Award from the Arkansas Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club, Conway chapter and the Circle of Roses Award from Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs, Town and Country Garden Club of Conway. For many years she attended Bible Study Fellowship and Joy of Living Bible study classes. She greatly loved gardening, both vegetable and flowers, and took great pride in having a beautiful yard, which received Yard of the Month many times. She was employed at Lefler's Fashion Shop for over twenty years, enjoying her work immensely and considering her customers her friends. It was her delight to help women with their wardrobe selections. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was being a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and sibling. She kept her family close in her heart, always considering their needs before her own. If one of hers loved someone, she loved them as well. Hospitality was natural to her and she delighted in preparing meals to share and opening her home as hostess to family, church, and community. Her family wishes to thank the beautiful people at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center for how they demonstrated love and cared for Pearl during her residency there. In addition, the family wishes to thank the medical personnel at Conway Regional Medical Center for their compassionate ministrations to her. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier. Services will be at First United Methodist Church of Greenbrier on Sunday, October 30 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Kevin Lyon officiating. Burial will follow the service at Crestlawn Cemetery in Conway. Pallbearers are Tom Dixon, Larry Halsey, Randy Garrett, Marty Lefler, Doug Tilley, and Tanner Tilley.
