Ethel Rae Gerlach Chism

Ethel Rae Gerlach Chism, 89, of Holly Grove passed away on Mar. 30, 2017. She was born Aug. 25, 1927 in the Holly Grove community to the late Floyd E. and Alma Ables Gerlach. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett D. "Bud" Chism; sister, Minnie Lee Parks; brothers, Kenneth Gerlach, Jerry Gerlach, and Larry Gerlach. She is survived by one daughter, Jimmie Rae Hopper and husband Jerry of Holly Grove; one granddaughter, Mary Beth West and husband John of Austin; great-grandchildren, Anna and Johnny West of Austin; brothers, Billy Gerlach and wife Betty of Jonesboro, Floyd "Bully" Gerlach and wife Bernice of Waynesboro, TN, and many nieces and nephews. Ethel Rae was a member of Believers Fellowship and the Holly Grove American Legion Auxiliary. She retired from the Holly Grove School District having worked 40 years as bookkeeper/secretary. She loved cooking, canning gardening, and reading her devotional books. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Believers Fellowship Church in Holly Grove with visitation at 2 p.m. at the church prior to funeral service. Interment will follow funeral service at Macedonia Cemetery by Fowler Funeral Home of Brinkley. Memorials may be made to Believers Fellowship Church, The Gideons, or one's favorite charity.
