Emmie L. (Cook) Mason, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away April 4, 2017. She was born December 22, 1929 in Reyno, Ark. to the late James (Jim) and Ruby Cook. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Alvin M. Mason, daughter; Bertie Lou Dunkum, granddaughter; Cassandra Lynn Dunkum, brother; Lester Bernard Cook, twin sister; Jimmie Dean Pearcy, and sister; Nancy Jane Fischer. Emmie graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. She was the Library Media Specialist at Warren Dupree in Jacksonville for twenty three years, retiring in 2002. She received the Pulaski County Special School District "Teacher of the Year" award in 1990. Also, receiving the Arkansas PTA "Teacher of the Year" awards in 1981 and 1982. She was affectionately known as "Miss Emmie" by the students she so dearly loved teaching. Emmie is survived by her son; James Mason (Janice), her daughters; Karen Robinson (Jerry), Peggy Norris (Mel), seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home & Crematory (501) 982-2136. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2017 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ken Stogstedill officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
