LaVerne Mae Spence

LaVerne Mae Spence, 89, of Searcy, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Unity Health – White County Medical Center. She was born May 2, 1927 in Judsonia to Jesse O. and Thamar Betts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, J.W. Spence; her daughter, Peggy Jones; two brothers, Omar Betts and Charles Betts; and four sisters, Ruth Sellers, Arena Belle Auten, Linda Gage, and Mary Bowie. She is survived by her son, Jerry Spence (Glenna) of Searcy; her son-in-law, Jerry Jones of Thompsonville, Illinois; a brother, Dennis Betts; a sister, Carol Jean Gordon; six grandchildren, Kent Jones of Thompsonville, Kerry Arview (Elva) of Thompsonville, Todd Spence of Searcy, Andrea McKane (Scott) of Jacksonville, Amy Littleton (Jason) of Little Rock, Emily Shaffer of Searcy; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6-8 on Wednesday, April 12 at the Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 at First Baptist Church of Floyd.
