Evelyn McGarity Ramer of Fordyce passed away peacefully Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Dalton's Place in Fordyce. Evelyn was born July 13, 1921 in Lonoke, Ark., to John Neal McGarity and Sally Jane Peterson McGarity. Evelyn graduated from Lonoke High School and was the owner/manager of the Fordyce Credit Bureau. On Oct. 7, 1943, she married C.A Ramer Jr. of England, Ark. This marriage lasted 72 years until his death in 2015. While C.A. was deployed during World War II, and was a POW for nine months, Evelyn stayed home supporting the military and raising their first child. Evelyn was community involved and always participated in school and church functions of her three boys. Evelyn has been a faithful member of Fordyce First Baptist Church since 1955, where she was an active member of the "Keenagers" group. Mrs. Ramer was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five sisters; and one brother and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Ramer. Survivors include three sons, C.A. Ramer III of Birmingham, Ala., John (Jan) Ramer of Fordyce, and David (Tena) Ramer of Heber Springs; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The Family will receive friends Monday April 17 from 5-7 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday April 18 at Plumerville Cemetery with Rev. Rusty Ross and Rev. Bill Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Fordyce, 501 North Main, Fordyce, Ark. 71742.
