James M. Lavender

James M. Lavender, born August 21st 1944 to Monte C. and Marion E. Lavender of Texarkana, Arkansas. James left this earth April 21st 2017 to be with the Lord and his heavenly family. He is survived by his wife Carolyn C. Lavender of Rogers, Ark., son: Mark Lavender and grandchildren: Jamie, Jared, and Jayda Lavender of Mesa, Ariz.; stepson: Robert Smith, grandchildren: Kyle and Kara Smith and great granddaughter: Sadie of Hiram, Ga. James graduated from High school in Texarkana and soon joined the U.S. Air Force editing various service related news papers. While serving in the Air Force at Vandenberg AFB in California he attained his AA degree from Ethan Allen College. After his service was completed he then attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR earning his BA as well as his MBA. Once completing his education he began a career in the retail building materials industry working his way to Senior Vice President of merchandising for Wicks Lumber before retiring after 26 years. In 1993 James and Carolyn moved to Rogers, Ark. and acquired his first business with his wife, Dobert's Flea Market, renaming it to Yesteryears Antique Mall. They expanded to four additional malls around NW Arkansas. James also owned and operated Travel Agents International as well as the Sanctuary restaurant in Bentonville, Ark. To quote James' favorite entertainer Frank Sinatra, "I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful life, a man who had good friends, fine family - and i don't think I could ask for anything more than that, actually." Rather than flowers the family asks that you donate those funds in his name, James M. Lavender, to his favorite charity, your local Humane Society.
