Marty S. Byers, age 57, of Lexa, Ark., passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Marty was born January 29th, 1960 in Parkersburg, W.Va. to Ronald and Shirley Byers. He graduated from Barboursville High School in 1978 and moved to Arkansas in 1982. He was a self-employed trucker before going to work for Helena Chemical Company where he was a loyal employee for over 20 years. He was also the Mayor of Lexa and was devoted to improving life for the city's residents. Marty will be remembered as a kind, generous man who would do anything for loved ones, friends, or even strangers. He was a skilled handy-man and loved to use those talents to help others. Marty was an animal lover who often volunteered with local animal welfare organizations. He also enjoyed fostering dogs, providing a loving home until they were adopted by their forever families. Marty is preceded in death by his father, Ronald S. Byers, of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; grandparents, Leo and Margaret Weaver; and grandmother, Agatha Cunningham. He is survived by his son, Ryan Byers, and grandson, Jaxon, of Fort Smith; daughter, Leah Byers, of Little Rock; former wife, Deborah Byers of Forrest City; mother, Shirley Byers, of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; brother Craig Byers (Teresa) of Barboursville, W.Va.; sister, Tammy Anderson (Bob) of Surfside Beach, S.C.; sister, Melissa Byers of Nitro, W.Va.; brother, Scott Byers (Diane) of Sanford, N.C.; and numerous relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 2 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Forrest City, Ark. All are welcome to attend.
