Suzanne Agnew Baumgartner

On January 6, 2017, Suzanne Agnew Baumgartner, age 73, of Reno, Nevada died of complications associated with her diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. "Susie" was born on April 3, 1943, to her parents Leonard and Louise Kluck Agnew in Lawton, Oklahoma the second of three children, her brother Brad Agnew and wife Sue of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and her sister Francie Agnew Wilbur and husband Fred of Wayne, Pennsylvania. Suzanne leaves behind her husband Tom of Reno, her brother, sister and a daughter, Morgan Baumgartner and husband John Desmond of Reno and a son, Drew Baumgartner and wife Jeanette Batchelor Baumgartner of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, John Tucker Desmond and Delaney Catherine Desmond of Reno and Maxwell Thomas and Jenny Lee of Huntsville will carry forward Suzanne's lust for life and love of family. Suzanne attended Lawton High School and graduated from the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts (then known as The Oklahoma College for Women) with a BA degree and a major in Speech Therapy. She met and married her husband Tom while he was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. After his tour of duty ended they moved to Tulsa and spent the next 45 years in Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, and Arkansas. During that time Susie taught school in Oklahoma and Arkansas and owned and operated her own printing business in Des Moines. They returned to Arkansas in 1985 and bought a business in Rogers, Arkansas in which both Tom and Susie participated in managing. The business was sold in 2005 which gave Suzie more time to pursue her favorite hobby: bridge. Playing bridge, along with entertaining, shopping, travel, and enjoying her many close friends brought her great pleasure before and after retirement. A lifelong bridge player, as was her mother, it formed the basis of an active and fun life. Suzanne was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2008 but it barely slowed her down. She remained active in all her pursuits and was declared in remission in 2013. In 2012 Tom and Suzanne moved to Reno to be nearer to their daughter and grandchildren and because of health issues which were best-handled closer to family. Susie spent her last 14 months at the Pleasant Care Group Home and the family would like to express their great appreciation for the comfort, safety, and concern the staff, and especially Merly provided during this difficult time. Suzanne is now reunited with her four wire fox terriers (3 named Ginger) and will be able to happily accompany them across the Rainbow Bridge. Farewell. Burial plans at Highland Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma are pending. The family suggests memorials in her honor to either the Alzheimer's Association or Circle of Life Hospice.
