Roberta Joan Skaggs Mahan, 84, passed away July 29, 2017. She was born on March 17, 1933, in Newton County, Arkansas to the late Floyd and Arah Skaggs. As a young girl, she wanted to be a nurse. She made her first train ride down to Little Rock to nursing school when she was eighteen. Her late husband teased her that she would have to swing out on a grapevine when she left for nursing school. She was a surgical nurse at Baptist in Little Rock for forty two years. She loved gardening and bird watching. She was a Christian that loved the Lord and wanted her family in church. She is survived by her daughter Linda Connett (Mike); her son Mark Mahan (Becki); stepson, Jerry Mahan (Joanie); three grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Kristen; and four great-grandchildren; brother, Homer Skaggs; and sister, Charlotte Garrett (Randy). Preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Mahan; parents; brother, J.F. Skaggs; and sister, Mary Della. We love her greatly but know she is happy now with J.D. The family would like to thank Spring Creek Health and Rehab for their excellent care for our mother over the past two years. The Funeral will be 10 a.m., Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Stanfill Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Visitation will be held at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2017. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
