Helen Marie Satterfield Boyd, 87, ended her life's journey on August 7, 2017 in Sherwood, Ark., and is now at home with Jesus. She is survived by her three children, Judith Hankins Douglas (Joe) of Jacksonville, Ark., Jesse A. Boyd III (Beth) of Little Rock, Ark., and Melanie Strickland (Charles) of Pleasant View, Tenn.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (with twins on the way); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Myrtle Satterfield; husband, Jesse A. Boyd Jr.; brother, Harold Satterfield; sister, Ramona (Boots) Harrell; and grandson, Christopher Zane Hankins. Helen was born on August 14, 1929, in Mayflower, Ark. She married Jess, the love of her life, on September 18, 1944 (during World War II). She was a beautiful woman, always well-dressed because of her great fashion sense, her ability as an accomplished seamstress, and her expert shopping skills. As an involved parent, she served in many support positions in the school system including PTA President. She was an employee of the state headquarters of Employment Security Division in Little Rock. Helen was proud of her Satterfield heritage and served as president of the national Satterfield Family Association. She was a dedicated member and worker in First Baptist Church, Mayflower for many years, and made sure her three children were always in church. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Little Rock in later years. Helen loved to cook and entertain, and her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were legendary. Her daughters and granddaughters cherish her recipes and carry on those traditions. She made her home a beautiful, warm, and welcome place for family and friends. Funeral service with Reverend Rick Jaggars officiating will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Roller Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas with burial to follow at Mayflower Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staff of Southridge Village/Cabot, St. Vincent North, and Kindred Hospice for their loving care.
