Charles Roy Swaty Sr. (Poppy to his grandchildren) born Nov. 12, 1928 in Swaty, Ark., to David Raphael Swaty Sr. and Grace Mae Byrns Swaty, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Ann Johnson Swaty, as well as children Cynthia Ann (Jeff), Charles Roy Jr., and Edith Grace (Bobby) and three grandchildren - Sarah, Rachel and Jack. He was proceeded in death by 12 brothers and two sisters. Charles graduated from Mena High School and attended Arkansas Law School where he graduated in 1950 with his Bachelor of Laws degree. He had a career as Casualty Superintendent with USF&G for over 20 years then retired to practice family law with his brother JW in Sheridan, Ark., where he also served as legal advisor for the city. In full retirement, Charles spent time pursuing his passion of helping others through the Learn to Read program in Grant and surrounding counties. In his spare time, he invented gadgets to better the lives of those around him and enjoyed hiking Pinnacle and Petit Jean Mountains as well as the woods around his boyhood home. He relished being a proud grandfather, keeping a garden, and traveling to Austria to explore family roots, as well as Europe and Hawaii. Charles was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, including over 60 years in the Henderson United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark. He was named an honorary member of the United Methodist Women in North Carolina for his work in Evangelism. His warm heart and sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 14 at Henderson United Methodist Church 13000 West Baseline Rd., Little Rock, Ark., with funeral services following Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Alexander, Ark.
