Bettye Ann Balios, 92, passed away August 15, 2017. Formerly Bettye Ann Flemister, she was born May 13, 1925 in Dalton, Georgia, the daughter of Linton Hamilton Flemister, Sr. and Mary Lee Combee Flemister. She is survived by the love of her life, Harold George Balios. Bettye and Harold had recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Other survivors include daughters, Dr. Vickie Balios Logan of Little Rock and Becky Ann Thorne of North Little Rock, and sons-in-law, Frank Thorne and Dave Volsen. She had four grandchildren, Kody and Kash Logan and Tracy and Bradley Thorne, and nine great-grandchildren, counting Baby Thorne due in March, 2018. Bettye worked briefly at M.M. Cohn Co., but moved to Houston with Harold during WWII. After they moved back to Little Rock, she became known for her artistic abilities. She did sketches and painted portraits. Bettye maintained year-round gardens and constructed beautiful floral arrangements. Her theme-party planning was enjoyed by all who knew her. Perhaps her greatest talent was costume design. She designed and made hundreds of specialty costumes, two of which won national costume awards: an elaborate antebellum gown and one depicting Arkansas as the duck hunting capital of the world. Bettye was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She had a deep faith in God and this was reflected in her strong prayer life. She will be greatly missed by those left behind, but others she loved are rejoicing in heaven to be with her again. A celebration of her life will be led by Rev. Mary Hilliard on Saturday, August 19 at 10 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). A private burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501) 224-2200. Bettye's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
