Sammy Ray Mitchell, 83, of Benton, passed away on December 3, 2017. He was born May 8, 1934 in Brantley, Alabama to the late Silas amd Bertie Peek Mitchell. Sammy served in the United States Navy and was retired from Alcoa as a maintence mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne, Lonnie, Coy Mitchell, Wright and Charles Bundrick, sister, Jean Straughn. Sammy is survived by his wife, Wanda Lou Mitchell of Benton, son, Johnny (Lisa) Mitchell of Benton, brother, Wilburn Mitchell of Alabama, sisters, Lane Bean of Oregon, Janis (Jack) Jeffrey of Texas, grandchildren, Jayce (Samantha) Mitchell, Matt Mitchell and Makayla Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Jayce Mitchell, Matt Mitchell, Bailey Palmer, Floyd Palmer, Kyle Lewis, James Baxley and Bill Dague, Joey Bagley. Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 2 p.m. Friday with Bro. Michael Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Ashbys.
